[[Legendary Pokemon|]]

Legendary Pokemon are special, one of a kind Pokemon that can be found in the Pokemon series. Most of the time you'll hear the non-playable characters in the game telling stories about these Pokemon. The stories and their rarity is what makes them the stuff of Legends.

These Pokemon are usually very strong and extremely hard to catch. If you have trouble catching a Legendary Pokemon, view our How To Guides for a few extra tips.

How to Catch Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres

Once you Encounter them, they will instantly flee, not giving you a chance to fight. You must track them down an additional nine times to progress. After the ten encounters, they will be at the Sea Spirit's Den, where you can battle and capture them. They will be level 70.

An easy way to encounter them the necessary ten times is to stock up on max repels and have a Pokemon under level 65. Fly to Santalune City and use the max repel. Next, head over to Route 4 and run in the grass. You will either find no Pokemon or you will run into one of the legendary birds. If you do not run into one of them, go back into Santalune City and then immediately back into Route 4. This will cause the Pokemon to switch between the route it was previously at and go into a new random route. Continue this process until you run into the Pokemon enough times. Remember to have a Pokemon under level 65 at the front of your party to encounter one of the Legendary Birds without encountering other random Pokemon.
