What Is a Recommendation Letter?

According to Career Blog, a recommendation letter is “a formal document confirming and recommending a person’s work, skills, or academic performance and potential.”

How To Write a Recommendation Letter in Spanish

If you’re planning to write a letter of recommendation in Spanish, make sure to provide specifics and context about the person you’re recommending and why you’re qualified for that task.

For example, you can explain the connection you have with that person and mention a specific achievement you’ve witnessed that person getting.

Your recommendation letter must include the following parts:

Date, Name, and Address

Every formal letter should start with this section on top of the page. With this information, the receiver of the letter can verify your identity and get in contact if necessary.

Just make sure to write your address correctly in Spanish. Include the following details, in order:

Date
Name
Job Title
Company
Street Address
City, State
Zip Code

Salutation

Known as saludo in Spanish, the salutation is the opening line on every letter and it’s the way to address directly to the receiver of the letter.

There are two ways to write a salutation in Spanish. The first one includes the name of the person you’re addressing, while the second one is reserved for situations where you may not know the name of the receiver of the letter.

Example Sentences

Estimado [name of the person you’re addressing]:
Dear [name of the person you’re addressing],

A quien corresponda:
To whom it may concern,

Introduction

In the first paragraph of your letter of recommendation in Spanish, you must explain the reason why you’re writing this letter and your connection to the person you’re recommending.

In this section, it’s important to include details about how you met this person and for how long you have known them, as that gives credibility to your affirmations.

Details

In this section, it’s important to include “specific examples attesting to the person’s qualifications.”

What have you seen this person doing that qualifies them for the job or career they’re applying for? What achievements or qualifications do they have that made them worthy of your recommendation?
